Can racing games really work on a touchscreen?

September 19, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Touchscreen racing gets a bad reputation, and some of it is deserved. Trying to simulate precise driving without a controller often ends in frustration. But the arcade end of the spectrum tells a different story.

Neon Drift Loop is the game that changed our minds recently. It leans fully into arcade feel, so the controls never fight you. Drifting is forgiving and fun rather than a physics puzzle.

The lesson for developers seems clear. Embrace the limits of the screen instead of pretending they don't exist. Tilt steering and tap boosts can feel wonderful when the whole game is designed around them.

So no, you won't get a hardcore sim experience in your pocket. But a joyful, stylish racer? That's absolutely achievable, and we're glad more studios are aiming there.
